A too-tall kid from the West sings his horses to victory and rises from the leaky-roof circuit to the top of the racing world in the Golden Age of Sports during the 1920s. Sande ranks as the top money-winning jockey in 1921 and 1923.  A severe 1924 accident at Saratoga nearly puts an end to his life and racing career. After many months of rehabilitation, Sande returns triumphantly with a second Kentucky Derby victory in 1925.  Despite missing some racing due to the illness and death of his wife, Sande again ranks as the nation's top money-winning jockey in 1927.  He leaves retirement to capture America's coveted Triple Crown aboard Gallant Fox in 1930. Thousands of jockeys over decades raced America's turf but only ten captured horse racing's coveted jewel, The Triple Crown.
  • "I enjoyed Triple Crown Winner: The Earl Sande Saga...This interesting book shows just how hard it is to win the Triple Crown and how Sande became one of the greatest jockeys of all time."

                         --Jean Cruget, 1977 Triple Crown
                            winner aboard Seattle Slew

  • "The remarkable story of Earl Sande is a good read: an exciting, well-crafted, perfectly paced piece that captures the essence of Sande's life and career."

                         --Steve Cauthen, 1978 Triple Crown

  • "No sports hero ever had more panache than a handy guy like Sande bootin' a long shot in. This great adventure tale is no long shot. It's a sure-fire winner, a movie in the making, the riveting tale of a true hero's hard times and high times...Saddle up and sit tight for one rare ride."

                          --Ed Hotaling, racing author

  • "One of the best biographies of a human participant in horse racing we have ever seen."
